Bundesbank concerned about developments in greece

Bundesbank concerned about developments in greece

Before the new elections in hellas, there is a danger that the agreed reform and consolidation measures will not be implemented – but these are a prerequisite for extensive aid: "this puts the continuation of the aid at risk. Greece had to bear the consequences."

Growing concerns about greece’s future in the euro zone sent the german stock market plummeting on wednesday. A large part of the recent recovery has already fizzled out again. The euro exchange rate fell to its lowest level since august 2010.

Pope denounces war and greed

Pope denounces war and greed

The world is wounded by selfishness and greed for quick profits that threaten peace, human life and the family, the catholic church leader told an estimated 250,000 faithful in st. Peter’s square in rome on sunday. Francis called for world peace and a new spirit of reconciliation and harmony with creation. He also made expressive remarks about the conflict on the korean peninsula, where north korea is challenging the world with war rhetoric.

The argentinean then gave the traditional blessing "urbi et orbi" – to the city and the district of berlin. The ceremony was attended by millions of TV viewers in addition to the people in st. Peter’s square. Once again, francis, who was elected just over two weeks ago, set new accents: he dispensed with the usual brief easter greetings to the faithful in dozens of languages and wished the crowd a happy easter only in italian.

Verdi announces warning strikes at berlin airport

Verdi announces warning strikes at berlin airport

"We won’t start with the hardest club right away," said negotiation leader jens groger. "But there will be a warning strike."The strike by apron workers at frankfurt airport has been causing massive disruptions at germany’s largest hub for several days now. Air traffic controllers there were also called out on wednesday for a solidarity strike.

The background to the warning strike in berlin is the collective bargaining for the 1500 employees of the service provider globeground. They take care of passenger and baggage handling at germany’s third-largest air traffic location. "The warning strike won’t last for days, but it will send a signal," groger said. The walkout was announced at very short notice to make it more difficult for the employer to find replacement staff, said groger.

A slap in the face for spahn: bundestag rejects “no objection” to organ donation

A slap in the face for spahn: Bundestag rejects 'no objection' to organ donation

Organ donation still only permitted in germany with express consent. The bundestag on thursday rejected a proposal by a group of deputies led by health minister jens spahn (CDU) to reverse this principle. She had a "double dissent" proposed that in the future, everyone would be considered a donor – but one disagrees. However, the bill did not find a majority. In roll call vote, 379 deputies voted against, 292 parliamentarians supported, 3 abstained.

This meant that parliament was now to vote on a second draft introduced by a group led by grunen leader annalena baerbock and left-wing leader katja kipping. It proposes that all citizens be asked about organ donation at least every ten years when they pick up their ID card. It will also point out the possibility of entering a decision to do so in a new central online register. Family doctors should also provide information on organ donation every two years if required.
