At noon on saturday around 12.00 a.M. A 23-year-old man from the district of tirschenreuth was driving a BMW on the B 22 from kemnath in the direction of bayreuth. In a long right-hand bend shortly after lettenhof, the young man overtook several vehicles in front of him in rain and wet road conditions. He obviously underestimated the space he needed for his overtaking maneuver.
During an overtaking maneuver, traffic became so tight that a 27-year-old driver of a ford fiesta had to brake hard on the oncoming lane to avoid a collision. A 21-year-old driver from the district of neustadt/waldnaab was unable to brake his opel astra in time and collided with the ford fiesta.
The BMW skidded after reinsertion, as did the opel after hitting the ford. Afterwards, the BMW and the opel collided head-on. The two cars were thrown from the roadway and came to rest with total loss in each case at the bosque.
The driver of the BMW and his 23-year-old female passenger were seriously injured and taken to bayreuth hospital. The driver of the opel was taken to kemnath hospital. The driver in the ford was slightly injured. The total amount of damage is approximately 35.000 euro.
The fire departments from speichersdorf and weidenberg were deployed to rescue the injured and clean up the road. The B 22 was the main road until about 14.45 o'clock completely blocked. Vehicle traffic was diverted locally.
